If you would like to receive notifications on a certain thread go to that thread and click on it.
Click on Actions, Bookmark at the top right corner of that post.
Then click on Profile at the top of the page.
Click Edit profile.
Click on Notifications.
You can choose how you would like to be notified about certain things on the forum.
Then you are done
